Coimbatore, July 22: At a time when road accidents are on the rise, the City based Bannari Infotech has come up with a road speed limiter.

It took 10 months to develop the speed limiter, an electro-mechanical control device, that would not allow the drivers to exceed a preset speed limit, said K S Sundara Raman, managing director, Bannari Infotech."There will be. no driver fatigue, no jerks, no loss of control and is tamper resistant," he said adding that the device has been certified by Automobile Research Association of India, Pune.
"The product has a huge market as speed control devices are being made mandatory for vehicles by amending the Motor Vehicles Act", he said.
A couple of states are already in the process of implementing the device for heavy vehicles.
The device, designed to suit Indian road conditions, would be retailed at around Rs 17,000, comparatively lower than other devices available in the market. Pricol is the only other Indian company to produce speed limiters.
"Apart from saving lives, the device increases fuel efficiency by 10 percent," he said.
